Do you feel like you're bad at art? Good! That's a great place to start.

Hey Reader!

I remember picking up watercolors all those years ago and being... nervous.

The colors were so vibrant in my cheap palette, and the page was so white, so blank.

I felt sure that I was going to mess it up.

That's why I didn't really try for a very long time. I was so afraid of wasting my supplies with my awful scribblings that I avoided painting like the plague. I was terrified that I'd make bad art.

And do you know what happened when I finally DID try?

I made bad art.

Oh, the frustration!

I had such pretty images in my head. Why couldn't I create them on the paper???

Now, of course, I realize the vital lesson that those first bad paintings were teaching me.

In order to learn something new, you must first be bad at it.

It was ridiculous to hold myself to such high expectations when I knew nothing about watercolors. I wasn't being fair to myself to set the bar so high.

The truth is, making bad art isn't a bad thing. In fact, it's the best thing you can do for yourself when you're first starting out!

Once I finally accepted this truth and started painting more, I learned a little bit with each brushstroke, each page.

Slowly, almost imperceptibly, I gained skill and confidence in my abilities.

Now I think back and wonder how far along my skills might be if I had gotten out of my own way sooner and just started.

Perhaps you have been working with watercolors for a while and need a little push. Perhaps you've been dying to try but scared to take that first step.

Either way, I want to help.

Over the years, I've picked up a lot of handy skills through tons of trial and error, and I want to offer some of those tips to you so you don't have to struggle like I did.

And the best part?

It's completely free!

I want to make sure everyone has that little bit of guidance, no matter where they are in their journey. I've found that even the smallest bit of support and help can go a very long way.

Do you ever sit down to paint and feel immense pressure to make this piece different? Make it mean something? Make it special somehow? I recently discovered a funny little mindset that steered my artistic growth – and hindered it in major ways. I realized that when I sat down to create, I felt like I needed to come up with everything right then and there. The concept. The colors. The composition. Every single thing had to be fresh right now if I wanted to make a nice painting. But the other...

One of the most common struggles I hear from people in this community is a lack of consistency. People have a tough time making time for their art and letting creativity be a regular part of their lives. It’s hard, when you have a life full of work, family, friends, domestic chores, and so much more, to squeeze in those habits and routines that mean so much. It’s interesting to see how art, expression, and creativity are the first to get tossed overboard when life gets hectic. And it always...
